Assurance Of Victory

1 Corinthians 10:13

13.No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.

My study this morning was on the scripture above. 1 Corinthians 10:13 speaks of God’s faithfulness and how he will not let us be tempted beyond what we can bear, and he will provide away out,we call this assurance of victory. 2 Timothy 2:22 says flee the evil desires of youth, and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart. Also see 1 Timothy 6:11. Running away is sometimes considered cowardly. But wise people realize that removing themselves physically from temptation often can be the most courageous action to take. We must have a active faith, Paul uses active and forceful verbs do describe the christian life, like flee, pursue, fight, take  hold. We must obey God with courage, and always be obedient. We see the words above as verbs because when we move and trust God we have assurance of victory.

In 1 John 2:15-16 it shows us 3 areas of temptation, 1.The cravings of sinful man-preoccupation with gratifying physical desires. 2. The lust of his eyes – craving and accumulation things, bowing to the god of materialism, and 3. boasting of what he has and does- obsession with ones status or importance. When the devil tempted Jesus in the desert, these were his three areas of attack. (see Matthew 4:1-11). In 2 Thessalonians 3:3 it says the Lord is faithful, and he will strengthen and protect us from the evil one. As we pray, and as we are obedient, and we listen , God will protect us and give us strength to gain victory. We have a high Priest who is able to sympathize with our weaknesses, He has been tempted in every way just as we are- but He is without sin. Hebrews 4:15 (paraphrased). Here are some things we can do to keep temptation from leading into sin.

Matthew 6:13 – Pray to be delivered

Psalm 119:9 – By living according to God’s word.

1 John 5:4-5 – believe that Jesus is the Son of God

Hebrews 4:16 – approach the throne of grace with confidence.

James 4:7 – Submit ourselves to God, resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

What is a temptation that frequently seizes you?

What do you think God’s way of escape is?

Answer these questions in your heat or even share, but always remember, we have a high priest who is able to sympathize with our weaknesses. PRAISE GOD!

  1. Well, Sister Betty, I didn’t expect to find anybody that I knew from a couple of years ago! It is good though to see that you are still ministering with encouragement and inspiration.

I had to take at least a couple of years off, due to heart-attack, fibromyalgia and some muscle problems, but the Lord has restored me mentally to at least be able to continue what He has called me to do! I Praise His name so much.

It’s amazing how the Holy Spirit can take life’s circumstances and what to others might be obstacles, but in His Hands, makes it a lesson for strength and power. It’s like His Holy Word says, “He takes the weak things to confound the strong, and the foolish things to confound the wise!”

Don’t have the forum anymore, but kept the website going even though wasn’t able to update it for the longest time. I praise the Lord that so much of the material was still inspirational to people. It was actually someone who visited the site that told me about blogging and that I might take to it. I have to admit, it is a powerful tool for ministry!!

Anyway, It is so good to see you still going at it despite your health problems, our God is a GOOD Father!! I will be clicking on the follow button as I am thankful I ran across your blog!! Isn’t God AWESOME???

I will be reading more Sis! God Bless you so very much!!

  2. Sister Betty, since I am following you, just wanted to let you know that I put a link to your site in my left-side navigation menu entitled: Some Blogs I Follow
Love your writing and inspiration and maybe (even though I’m new to blogging) can get some more coming your way! God Bless!

  3. Howdy! I could have sworn I’ve visited this website before but after going through many of the articles I realized it’s new to me.

Nonetheless, I’m certainly happy I found it and I’ll be bookmarking it and checking back

  4. I love Sister Betty that you emphasized the action in serving (another verb) the Lord in all we do! That is the foundation of what I believe our example is to be to others as God, our Father’s example was to us in the giving (another verb) of His Son for our redemption! Then of course, Jesus’ obedience to His Father was an action, His teaching to the disciples to follow His example was an action! Almost, if not all the attributes of the Lord, concern ACTION and the one that won’t pass away when the others do; LOVE!!! Again, the action, not the noun!!
Sis, I’ve said it before, I have always loved and appreciated your insightfulness and your following after the Holy Spirit. God bless you as you continue to inspire, uplift and encourage all of us!!!
